...So I decided nine days ago to try and get back into oekaki. This, of course, being a frightening prospect because I work with a mouse and I've never been terribly good at it. But, I figured I'd show you all my nine-day progression in a series of eight images: In chronological order, of course. And I warn you, it starts off bad ^.^' btw, these were all done at Neon Dragon Art's Oekaki Boards. Thank you, NDA dudes, for tolerating my learning experience. A mermaid, of sorts. Drawn with Redheaded Being hovering over my shoulder telling me how awful the colors were. I know it sucks Kiwi! And his wings grew a little. The glowy grass things pwn -.- That's about it. ...And since when did I draw beach scenes??? I could have sworn I was an anime/fantasy artist.... ah, well, at least the crab is cute ^.^ So naturally, the next thing to do is draw a horse? o.0? Well, why not. Actually, it was partially done for my sister, the horse freak. Ah, there we go. Back to my supposed forte. And it sucks, of course. *boos and hisses at the shading on the clothing* Wait, now we have a bird. A bird? Am I regressing back to fifth grade? And finally, we have come to the conclusion that Asuka was meant to oekaki nothing but birds. This little western tanager is my new prize oekaki, and the first where I'm actually happy with the results. Thus, from now on, I shall oekaki naught but birdsies. Someone save me now -.-'

Your colour choice for the mermaid PAINS. I told you it pains and you wouldn't listen to me, so now you have a painfully bright mermaid with bad colour choice. I like the one of the guy snoozing in the grass. His left arm is a little wonky, but it's a sweet picture. I love his ears, they're adorable. <3 to the beach scene. XD You know I love and sand and water and anything related to them. The horse... I have no words. It is simply too random. However, you may have wanted a reference, since it looks a little off. Awwww, Redheaded Being likes the birdys! I want to see the swan you're working on!
See? With practice, you get better. Now you no longer suck at oekaki!

MY HOTEL HAS INTERNET ACCESS *spazztwitchexcitement* That said, thanks Autumn. Oekaki is an online program that some websites offer that use a sort of souped up version of paint to draw/illustrate low resolution images (most boards have a max of around 600x600 pixels, but most of the better oekakies stay under 400pixels in either direction. A lot of boards are series-specific or require you to show a sample of your oekaki work to get in, but a few, like NDA, are unrestricted- anyone can do whatever, so that's where I like to work. It's a fun hobby, if anything, and a good way to waste time when there's nothing else to do, although there are some people who take it VERY seriously. As for Redheaded Being... you've already said a lot of that in person, but I'm glad you like the beach; I know the horse sucks, and thank you for the birdy compliments. I'm actually not working on a swan right now, I was looking for references earlier when I talked to you and found a swan that I may or may not draw But you know, either way I'll post whatever I do.

Yay for internet access! It is awesome and life and like that! And I would die without it.
Please do a swan? I like swans, they're so pretty.

It IS. It is my LIFE. If someone was to take it away from me, I would be most upset. Like Chantal just said, "No one comes between me and my internet." Not even when my connection gets wonky for reasons unknown to me and I have to fight with it. I still do not give up!

Thank you ^.^ I like my bird too... and I'll think about the swan, Redheaded Being - I'll do it if I find a reference that I really like.
Internet = happy Asuka. Forum activity on the internet = happier Asuka.

Would it help if I went and found you a reference picture or three?

nope, already have some. Besides, I won't use anything random off the internet, it has to either be stuck in B&B or be a royalty-free stock from sxc.hu Thanks for the offer, though

Thanks ^.^ You know, two weeks ago I said basically the same thing about me and oekaki. You should see some of my old work (the horror!). It's something that takes practice.

Well, now that you have reference pictures for swans, would you please draw one? Pretty please? Pretty please with Sanzo on top? *Gives puppy eyes*
Hmm, well, cannon, you can't get good at something without practice, so try! It doesn't mean you have to show anyone your work. +^_^+

Techinically, Redheaded Being, if it's oekaki you DO have to show people your work, unless you always delete it before you submit it, which is just silly.
That's why you should find a board that has a mixed skill level and an open & encouraging member group, to help you along the way.
Redheaded Being... I already drew it -.-' Look in the top few threads of this board, you'll see it.
